I can’t believe Father’s Day is right around the corner, which means it’s June already. Time is definitely going by way too fast. Last month I did a post for Mother’s Day where I mentioned that my mom always says she doesn’t need anything. Well, my dad is the same way. He never asks for anything and always says he doesn’t need anything, which makes shopping for him that much harder. But I’ve known my dad now for quite some time :-), so there are a few things I know will make him smile. Before I list a few gift ideas, I’ll share a little story about my dad.
One of my favorite moments with my dad was the time he met me in Turkey. IÂ was traveling alone through Europe for a few weeks, so while planning this trip I asked him if he wanted to meet me there. He loves to travel but doesn’t do it often since my mom is not a big fan. He excitedly said yes! This turned into a father & daughter trip which kicked off with much excitement right from the beginning.
FATHER/DAUGHTER TRIP – TURKEY
I was arriving a day earlier to Istanbul than my dad, so I communicated with him in advance that I would meet him at the airport. My dad speaks very little English, so I thought it would be hard for him to communicate with people there let alone get around the city and make it to the hotel alone. I arrive at the airport that morning to meet him just like we had discussed. My dad’s flight had just landed, so I walk around the airport looking for him but he was nowhere to be found. Almost two hours go by and still no sign of him. His cell isn’t working so there was no way to contact him. I start to worry. I’m thinking maybe he got detained for some reason. I start asking around to see if anyone had seen him. Nothing! An employee at the airport mentioned I should call the hotel in case he went straight there. I thought it was a long shot. There was no way my dad made it the hotel. But after two hours and still no sign of him, I decided to call the hotel. The receptionist informed me that my dad had checked in and was at the rooftop bar having a beer!! I didn’t know how to react. I was mad that he didn’t wait for me at the airport but so excited that he got around just fine without me. He truly surprised me. That was the beginning of the most amazing trip with my dad. Now if only his photography skills were just as good ;-). I’m crooked in every picture he took!
Sorry for digressing, though you must admit my dad’s so cute, I just love him. Anyway, back to the purpose of this post, not sure what to get your dad…
